Curling Ribbon

Everyone knows the classic curling ribbon spirals. Think they’re outdated? Not at all — it’s all about how you use them. Wind several ribbons in different colours around your gift, symmetrically or criss-cross as the mood takes you. The result is a fresh, modern decoration.

Instructions

You will need:

• three curling ribbons in different colours
• scissors

Creating the decoration:

1. Start by tying each of the three ribbons individually in a cross around the package.
2. Begin on the top side each time and secure them there with a double knot at the crossing point.
3. The different-coloured ribbons should cross over each other but not overlap. Depending on your experience, you can cut the ribbons to length before or after tying. Make sure they are long enough so that the curls turn out nice and full!
4. Curling the ribbon: to curl each ribbon, place the outer edge of the scissors against the ribbon right at the knot, press the ribbon down with your thumb, and draw the scissors along it with light, smooth pressure.
5. Tip: the harder you press, the tighter the curls. If the edge of your scissors is too rounded, you can very carefully try using the blade instead.
6. Finally, arrange the ribbons in the centre. A little pinning is perfectly fine. With a bit of imagination, you can decorate a bottle in a very similar way.
