Two-Colour Play

Two-Loop Bow

The charm of the two-loop bow lies in its asymmetry. Classic colour combinations work particularly well — such as black and white. Or why not the colours of your favourite football club: black and yellow, red and white, or blue and white? A guaranteed winner!

Instructions

You will need:

  • 2 x approx. 35 cm of decorative ribbon (in two different colours)
  • approx. 50 cm of tie ribbon (narrow)

Tying the bow:

  1. For the two-loop bow, make each loop separately.
  2. Take the first piece of ribbon and fold one end into a loop.
  3. The loop should be roughly the same length as the remaining end.
  4. Secure it with a pin.
  5. Repeat the same process with the second ribbon and pin that loop in place at roughly its centre. Then cross the two loops over each other to create a two-winged bow shape.
  6. Secure the crossing point with a pin, this time placed horizontally.
  7. To tie the two loops together, thread the tie ribbon between the loops and around the crossing point.
  8. Before tying it off, remove the first two pins to avoid pricking yourself.
  9. You can also gather the bow slightly before securing it, to give it a particularly attractive shape.
  10. Finally, fasten the tie ribbon with a double knot. Tip: for the two-loop bow, always choose ribbons that differ only in colour. Different widths or materials would be too much.
  11. The two-loop bow can also be attached directly to a bottle. Form the two loops as described above and pin them together.
  12. This time, however, first secure the tie ribbon to the bottle with a double knot. You can then tie the bow to the tie ribbon, and thus directly to the bottle. Remember to remove the pins afterwards!

Packages and envelopes also look wonderful decorated with a two-loop bow. Discover this and other ribbon ideas under ‘Inspiration’.

Have fun making it!
